Chris took up refereeing 8 years ago after spending 2 years taxing his newly qualified 14 year old son, Craig from game to game. During this time Chris was closely watching his son from the sidelines and learning new tips and rules. As soon as Craig became mobile Chris took the plunge and sat the course which he thoroughly enjoyed and learnt a great deal from. He is currently vice-chairman of the Farnham Referees Society. He also officiates on many local leagues and is popular with many of the local teams (and unpopular with some too!)

Chris’ most memorable match was his first ever game, when he can still remember to this day having to pull the red card out to a player for Shalford United for stamping on an opponent, during a wet and windy day. “ I had no choice, stamping is a straight red card whoever you are and whether its my first game or not. I’m glad to say though that during the past eight years the red card very rarely leaves my pocket. I think this is due to one of my strengths and an important part of refereeing, man management.”

A referee who despite the criticism he often gets from pundits and managers, that Chris thinks is the best in this Country is ‘Graham, Poll’. “ I’ve seen Graham officiate live a couple of times and on the TV and I think his positioning is superb. This helps him when someone doesn’t necessarily agree with him because at least he can argue he was near by and on top of the game,” although Chris agrees Mr. Poll did drop a ricket in the world cup which is in-excusable. Chris himself has refereed in front of some big crowds during County and League Cup finals, of which he is often appointed to.
